Your Texarkana College computer is now part of a new domain. This new domain is much more secure than the previous domain and will provide the foundation for many new and exciting technology advancements to come in the near future.
Here is a document to guide you in accessing your new email. Although you won’t see your old email, it’s there and awaiting your return to campus.
Because your computer is on a new domain, you have a new username and password. You also have a new email address. However, don’t worry – your old email address will still work, but you should start advertising your new email address. There’s no need to go out and purchase new business cards, but be cognizant of the change when the time comes. When you send an email to someone, they will see your new email address, but whether they email your old address or your new address, you will still receive the email – like it or not.
The new domain is bulldog.net. You don’t really need to know this, but in case you see it, that’s what it means. Your email address is still @texarkanacollege.edu, so there’s no change there.
Your new username is the first eight characters of your first name, a period, then the first eight characters of your last name. For example, if your name is John Doe, then your new username is john.doe; if your name is Strawberry Shortcake, then your new username is strawber.shortcak. If you have a special character in your name (like a dash or apostrophe), then it is simply ignored. For example, if your name is Wiley O’Shenanigan, then your new username is wiley.oshenani (and bless your heart).
Your new email address is your new username@texarkanacollege.edu. In the above examples, the three email addresses would be john.doe@texarkanacollege.edu, strawber.shortcak@texarkanacollege.edu, and wiley.oshenani@texarkanacollege.edu, respectively.
Your passwords will also change to be more secure. Your new password must contain at least eight characters. At least one of these must be uppercase, at least one must be lowercase, and at least one must be a number or a special character. Here are some special characters: !@#$%^&*()’ An example of a secure password is this: ri&SE78# Another more readily remembered secure password is this: ILoveMy4Puppies@Home! Another added security measure is that your password will need to be changed every 42 days. In the second example above, your changed password could be this: ILoveMy5Puppies@Home! or ILoveMy4Puppies@Home@ In each of those examples, I simply iterated one character – it doesn’t have to be difficult to be secure!
